化学性质： 白色细软光亮粉末。无臭，无味。 微溶于水，溶于热的乙醇溶液中。硬脂酸镁又称十八酸镁，是一种脂肪酸盐型阴离子表面活性剂，外观为白色细粉，微有特臭，有滑腻感。可溶于热脂肪烃、热芳烃、热油脂，但不溶于醇和水，遇强酸分解成硬脂酸和相应镁盐.

用途：
1.是新型药用辅料，可作固体制剂的成膜包衣材料、胶体液体制剂的增稠剂、混悬剂等
2.用作聚氯乙烯热稳定剂，以及化妆品年面粉、润肤油膏和医药片剂原料（赋形药、润滑药）；用于校木粉中使之润滑光亮透明；油漆工业作透明平光剂等。
3. 用作聚氯乙烯热稳定剂，ABS、氨基树脂、酚醛树脂和脲醛树脂的润滑剂，油漆添加剂
4. 用于制香粉、化妆品，也用作油漆和假漆的催干剂， 抗结剂；脱模剂；乳化剂。
